Up Railway Stations D » Dundalk Quay Street

Dundalk Quay Street station, located west of the Co.Louth town was the Dundalk & Greenore Railway's own separate station. It opened with the line to Greenore port in 1873, and was largely funded by the London & North Western Railway in Britain. The Great Northern Railway took over the running of the D&GR in 1933, passenger services had already been running through Quay St station to the the main GNR station in the town. The Greenore line closed completely in 1951, but a short section of the route from the GNR's main line to Barrack St goods yard just short of Quay St remained in use until 1995. The area has since been redeveloped, but the brick built D&GR station remains intact, complete with goods shed.
